Songwriter Competition.
But 2009 was the year that Kara Dioguardi
became a judge. The American Idol Songwriter Contest was
cancelled, and instead, Kara wrote the song No Boundaries, which
was a critical failure.
JC's song was perfect for the finale of American Idol.
But with no contest, there was no one to sing it.
There was no big record company to make it sound like a hit song.
The dream seemed like it was over.
But then JC decided that he himself could be the star....
JC would need to turn his plain songwriters piano rendition, into a
polished radio-ready tune. So he spent the next year producing his song
for pop radio.
JC wrote and arranged all of the instrumental and vocal parts. He played
all of the instruments. He did all of the recording and mixing in his
home studio.
It's truly and purely a solo artist's creation.
If You Believe In Magic is the inspirational story about the
ordinary person who has a dream to succeed...
It's the dream to become a Superstar!
JC Superstar Auditions for Hitmakers TV
Show
May 2, 2010
JC Superstar headed to Atlanta to audition for the
Bravo
channel's newest TV show,
Hitmakers. Arriving outside the
audition studio at 4:00 AM, JC found he was contestant #1, first in
line.
Bravo's Hitmakers is a reality TV
show to find America's greatest songwriter.
Each contestant needed to be able to write and perform an original song.
"We were led into the studio in groups of 20.", says JC.
"I was first up, and began singing my new song 'If You Believe In
Magic'."
"The CD player started to malfunction... first speeding up, and then
slowing down... and the sound system was way too loud...
I barely got through the chorus... It was a train wreck!"
"That's the trouble with being first.", JC says.
"I remember another contestant in my group...
A girl named Spongetta."
"She sang a song about 'I'll be in my studio', which started out ok, but
then she repeated the words over and over until it got to be ridiculous.
Neither she nor I was chosen."
"The funny thing is... A few months later I saw her do another audition
on the TV show, America's Got Talent."
The judges X-ed her, of course. But in the finale, Nick Cannon brought
her back for the encore of the best of the worst contestants.
We all got a huge surprise when T-Pain suddenly appeared on stage to
sing her song.
America's Got Talent had turned her dream of becoming a star into
something real!
It just goes to show you... You can make it, but only if you keep
trying!
